Dominican Republic hit by showers and thunderstorms as tropical wave passes

A tropical wave located over Haiti is generating cloud cover, scattered showers, thunderstorms and possible wind gusts across the Dominican Republic. The Instituto Dominicano de Meteorología (Indomet) reports rain in the provinces of San Cristóbal, Peravia, Azua, Barahona, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, Sánchez Ramírez, La Vega, Espaillat, Puerto Plata and the Gran Santo Domingo during the early morning hours, with precipitation tapering off by mid‑morning as the wave moves away.

Residual moisture will foster isolated showers and thunderstorm activity later in the afternoon and early evening, especially in the northeast, the Cordillera Central and the Valle del Cibao. Temperatures remain high, ranging from 23 °C to 25 °C at night and 31 °C to 33 °C during the day, exacerbated by Saharan dust in the atmosphere. Indomet advises the public to stay hydrated, wear light coloured clothing, avoid prolonged sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and for small vessels along the Caribbean coast to operate with caution due to possible gusty winds and rough seas.
