Dominican Republic government delivers flood aid and launches housing upgrades for 800 families

The Dominican Republic government carried out a second distribution of emergency cash assistance to families affected by the April floods in Villa Montellano, Puerto Plata. A total of 2,289 households received RD$7,000 each, bringing the overall investment to more than RD$31 million. Mayra Jiménez, director of the Supérate program, said, “El Gobierno continúa acompañando a las familias que enfrentan situaciones difíciles provocadas por el cambio climático.” In addition, mothers in the community were given support from the “El Cariñito” program for Mother's Day.

Separately, authorities announced the next phase of the Programa de Transformación Urbana (PRO‑TU), which will improve about 800 homes in communities along the 6 de Noviembre highway in the Greater Santo Domingo area. The plan includes roof repairs, structural upgrades, and the refurbishment of communal spaces, with technical and socioeconomic studies already completed and work set to begin soon.
