Dominican Republic health experts urge early detection and vaccination

Health specialists in the Dominican Republic are highlighting the importance of early detection and preventive measures amid rising respiratory concerns. According to data from the Superintendencia de Salud y Riesgos Laborales (SISALRIL), more than 44,000 affiliates have received care related to lung cancer.

Dr. Ian C. Bostock noted that advancements in minimally invasive surgery and robotic procedures are improving outcomes for patients diagnosed in early stages. These innovations allow for more precise interventions and faster recovery times.

Simultaneously, Maribel Jorge, president of the Dominican Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery, has warned against self-medication following an increase in respiratory cases accompanied by symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. She urged the public to begin influenza vaccination schedules and called on the Ministry of Public Health to ensure pregnant women and children are included in vaccination programs to prevent severe pulmonary complications.
