Public health alerts issued in Dominican Republic and Venezuela

Public health authorities in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela are taking active measures to combat infectious diseases. In the Dominican Republic, the Servicio Nacional de Salud (SNS) has activated alerts and reinforced protocols across the public hospital network due to rising cases of leptospirosis, dengue, malaria, and rabies. Recent epidemiological data shows 273 confirmed cases of leptospirosis, 282 cases of dengue (including one death), and 136 cases of malaria.

In Venezuela, the Ministry of Popular Power for Health, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has launched a training initiative in the Amazonas state. The program focuses on certifying 15 indigenous community spokespersons in malaria diagnosis and treatment. This training aims to strengthen the regional laboratory network and empower indigenous populations to lead epidemiological prevention and control efforts in remote jungle municipalities.
