Dominican Republic implements new digital laws and digital roadmap
The Dominican Republic is implementing significant legislative and structural changes. The enactment of Law 74-25 introduces new penalties for digital content, including prison sentences of two to five years for sharing altered videos and up to ten years for material that compromises human dignity. Additionally, the new penal code establishes penalties of up to three years for drivers who intentionally obstruct emergency vehicles like ambulances.
On the administrative front, the Ministry of Public Administration (MAP), with support from the UNDP, has presented a roadmap for the country's digital transformation. The initiative aims to consolidate an integrated and interoperable digital ecosystem to improve public services, addressing challenges such as institutional fragmentation and digital skill gaps.
