Dominican Republic Intrant issues first Guardianes del Tránsito permits

The Instituto Nacional de Tránsito y Transporte Terrestre (Intrant) handed out 58 learning permits to the inaugural graduates of the Guardianes del Tránsito program, a road‑safety initiative created through an agreement with the Ministry of Education. The program, which has trained 620 students across six schools, requires participants to complete 30 of the 60 required social‑service hours while receiving education on traffic safety, responsible mobility and citizenship.

The pilot began at the Centro Psicopedagógico Ozama, where 14 students received the first official Guardianes del Tránsito permits. Subsequent milestones include 17 graduates from Liceo Emilio Prud’Homme in Azua— the first public school outside the Greater Santo Domingo area to award the permits— and 15 graduates from Liceo Víctor Garrido Puello, the first public school in the capital region to achieve the same. Intrant executive director Milton Morrison highlighted that the effort aims to embed road‑safety culture in new generations and help save lives.
