Santo Domingo 2026 Games gear up with free medical care and arena upgrades

The Dominican Republic is preparing for the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026 with a series of health, infrastructure and sport‑specific initiatives.

The National Health Service (SNS) received the Games torch and announced a free, specialized medical assistance plan for athletes, delegations, families and visitors expected from 24 July to 8 August 2026. More than 100 public‑health doctors will be on standby and hospitals in competition zones have been integrated into a special assistance protocol.

Banreservas is completing the renovation of the Virgilio Travieso Soto Arena, upgrading it to international standards. The arena will host the national basketball team’s World‑Cup qualifying games in July and serve as a key venue for the Games.

The Dominican aquatics federation confirmed that the country will compete in every aquatic discipline – diving, sprint swimming, artistic swimming, open‑water and water polo – with athletes training at the newly refurbished National Aquatic Center.

A commemorative stamp series was issued to honor the Games, highlighting sport, unity and regional identity. The basketball federation also released a pre‑selection list for the third qualifying window for the 2027 FIBA World Cup, with matches to be played in the renovated arena.

Together, these measures illustrate a coordinated effort to ensure medical safety, modern facilities and competitive readiness for the multi‑sport regional event.
