Severe weather alerts issued across the Americas amid heavy rainfall

Multiple regions across the Americas are facing severe weather emergencies due to tropical waves and frontal systems.

In the Dominican Republic, the Center for Emergency Operations (COE) has raised alerts for several provinces. Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, and the Distrito Nacional are under yellow alert, while provinces including Barahona, Azua, and Monte Plata remain under green alert. Meteorologists warn of intense rainfall, potentially between 70 and 100 millimeters, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts.

Honduras is also experiencing significant weather impacts. COPECO has issued a yellow alert for the lower reaches of the Goascorán River in Valle, specifically in the Alianza municipality. Other areas, including the lower Choluteca River and the Ulúa River basin, remain under green alert as authorities monitor rising water levels.

In Chile, the Metropolitan Region is under a yellow alert following historic rainfall, with some areas recording up to 146 millimeters. This has resulted in localized flooding, power outages, and at least one reported fatality. Additionally, the Coquimbo Region remains under a preventive early warning due to risks of wind, electrical storms, and potential mass movements like landslides or debris flows.
