Dominican Republic issues green alert for five provinces and capital over tropical wave

The Dominican Republic’s Center of Operations of Emergencies (COE) placed a green alert on five provinces—Azua, San Cristóbal, Peravia, Barahona and the Gran Santo Domingo region—and the Distrito Nacional after a tropical wave brought scattered showers, thunderstorms and occasional gusty winds across the southeast, northeast, central mountain range, Cibao valley, southwest and border zones. The Institute Dominican Meteorology (Indomet) reported increased cloudiness and isolated rain showers from early morning. Authorities advised operators of small and medium vessels on the Atlantic coast—from Cabo Engaño in La Altagracia to Cabo Cabrón in Samana—and on the Caribbean coast to navigate with caution due to hazardous surf. Residents were urged to avoid crossing rivers, streams and ravines with high water levels and to stay away from beach pools in the alerted areas.
