Dominican Republic weather alerts issued for heavy rain and storms
The Dominican Republic is experiencing unstable weather conditions due to the influence of a tropical wave and a trough. The Instituto Dominicano de Meteorología (Indomet) has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and wind gusts across various regions of the country, including the northeast, northwest, southwest, and the Central Mountain Range.
In response to the risk of urban flooding, rising rivers, and overflowing streams, the Centro de Operaciones de Emergencias (COE) has issued green alerts for several provinces and the National District. Affected areas include Gran Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, and Sánchez Ramírez.
Despite the precipitation, high temperatures are expected to persist, with maximums ranging between 33°C and 35°C. Authorities have advised the population to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid direct sun exposure. Maritime operators are also urged to exercise caution due to potential reduced visibility and wind gusts.
