Dominican Republic issues widespread weather alerts as trough and tropical wave bring heavy rain and dangerous seas

The Dominican Republic's meteorological agency, Indomet, placed nine provinces under alert as a mid‑latitude trough combined with an approaching tropical wave to generate heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong gusts and elevated flood risk. Provinces on alert include Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Duarte, San Pedro de Macorís and San José de Ocoa, with additional warning levels in Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, San Cristóbal and the Greater Santo Domingo area.

Coastal authorities warned of dangerous wave conditions on both the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts. Vessels of all sizes were ordered to remain in port from Cabo San Rafael to Bahía de Manzanilla on the Atlantic side and from Isla Beata to Playa San Rafael on the Caribbean side, while remaining coastal waters were to be navigated with extreme caution.

Temperatures were forecast to range between 21 °C and 23 °C at night and 31 °C to 33 °C by day, prompting health advisories to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure. A further tropical wave is expected to intensify rainfall on Tuesday, raising the likelihood of urban flooding, river overflows and landslides.
