Santo Domingo prepares for 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games

The Dominican Republic is finalising preparations for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, scheduled for 24 July‑8 August 2026 in Santo Domingo and surrounding cities. A torch relay, dubbed the “Llama de los Valores”, has visited Santo Domingo Este, Villa Juana and other districts, drawing participation from local officials, former athletes and community members.

A multi‑agency mobility plan was presented to ensure safe and efficient movement of athletes, officials and spectators, with routes, traffic corridors and coordination mechanisms outlined by the Institute of Transit, the Ministry of Sports, the Public Works Ministry and security forces. Around 200 volunteers have been trained to assist with medal ceremonies across venues.

Sports infrastructure is being completed on schedule. The Judo pavilion at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center has been renovated to meet international standards, and the baseball stadium in the Central Olympic Complex has been upgraded with new playing surfaces, lighting and facilities. Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó affirmed that all venues will be ready before the opening ceremony.

Participating nations are confirming delegations, including a Venezuelan surf team and an Aruban delegation that attended a seminar on Olympic values and anti‑doping. The Games will host thousands of athletes from across the Caribbean and Central America, positioning the Dominican Republic as a regional sporting hub.
