Dominican Republic launches AI literacy program for one million citizens

President Luis Abinader has launched ‘RD Inteligente,’ a National Artificial Intelligence Literacy Program aimed at providing free AI training to one million citizens in the Dominican Republic. The initiative, executed through the Las Americas Institute of Technology (ITLA), seeks to expand digital literacy and establish the nation as a regional technology hub in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The program is designed to be inclusive, targeting students, entrepreneurs, civil servants, teachers, and the general workforce. Rather than focusing solely on software development, the goal is to help professionals integrate AI tools into their existing roles to increase productivity. The training will be delivered virtually to ensure accessibility across the country.

Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza noted that the program is part of the broader National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (ENIA) and involves collaboration with global technology leaders such as Google and NVIDIA. ITLA Rector Jimmy Rosario Bernard stated that over 120,000 people have already registered for the program, with the first phase focusing on foundational AI literacy.
