Dominican Migration Agency Launches Probe After Haitian Man Transported on Motorcycle
The Dirección General de Migración (DGM) opened an investigation into two migration agents after a video showing a Haitian migrant handcuffed and placed on a motorcycle during an operation in San Juan de la Maguana went viral. The agents said they responded to a call for assistance at Plaza Líbano where the man was allegedly caught stealing goods and became violent. DGM officials said the detainee was restrained and positioned between the agents on the bike, but the vehicle overturned during the ride. The agency affirmed that no circumstance justifies the method of transport, citing protocols that require additional support and respect for human rights when a detainee resists arrest. The two agents have been summoned to the Directorate of Migration Intelligence for questioning, and DGM pledged to determine responsibility and ensure compliance with constitutional and legal standards.
