Dominican Republic meteorological agency warns of heavy rain, storms and hazardous seas

The Dominican Republic's Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) has issued weather alerts as a trough and a tropical wave interact over the island, creating unstable atmospheric conditions. The agency expects local to moderate rains on Monday, intensifying to strong showers, thunderstorms, strong winds and even isolated hail in many provinces, including the Greater Santo Domingo area, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, San Juan, and Barahona.

Dangerous sea conditions have prompted restrictions on navigation. Small, fragile and medium‑size vessels are advised to remain in port along both the Caribbean and Atlantic coasts, especially from Cabo San Rafael to the Bay of Manzanillo and from Isla Beata to San Rafael beach.

Temperatures will stay high, with daytime highs of 31‑35 °C nationwide. INDOTEM recommends staying hydrated, wearing light clothing and avoiding prolonged sun exposure. Meteorological alerts cover eight provinces, while warnings affect nine, reflecting risk of urban flooding, river overflow and landslides. Forecasts indicate rains will persist into Wednesday, then gradually lessen on Thursday as the trough moves toward Puerto Rico.
