Dominican Republic Migration Authority Grants Stay to Pregnant Mother and Deportes 1,081 Irregular Migrants

The Dominican Republic’s Dirección General de Migración (DGM) authorized a young woman who gave birth in San Pedro de Macorís to remain in the country after confirming that the child's father is a Dominican citizen, despite the mother having presented falsified identity documents. The agency explained that the verification of the father’s identity was conducted under its exclusive authority and that the mother was hospitalized for pre‑eclampsia for 16 days before being transferred to a migration processing centre.

In a separate set of operations on 3 July, DGM deported 1,081 undocumented foreigners after detaining 1,157 people across numerous provinces. The deportations were carried out at border points in Dajabón, El Ías Piña and Jimaní, following coordinated efforts with the army, police and border security forces. DGM emphasized that these actions are part of its ongoing mandate to enforce the Dominican migration law and protect national security.
