Dominican Republic Military Participate in National Consultation to Prevent Violence Against Women
The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Defense, led by Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, and the Ministry of Women, headed by Minister Gloria Reyes, organized a national consultation that brought together hundreds of male military personnel. The event aimed to capture men’s perspectives on the social and cultural factors that drive gender‑based violence, with the goal of informing more effective public policies and prevention programs.
Participants answered a questionnaire covering social norms, masculinity, conflict resolution and shared responsibility. The consultation, titled “Voices that contribute solutions from the male population,” is supported by the World Bank and the United Nations system and will be extended to other sectors and regions of the country. Officials emphasized that involving men is essential to building constructive masculinity and reducing violence against women across Dominican society.
