Dominican Republic Ministry of Defense pays RD$600 million to retired military

The Dominican Republic Ministry of Defense (MIDE), through the Armed Forces Social Security Institute (ISSFFAA), has distributed RD$600 million to 327 retired military personnel. This payment is part of the ‘Sueldo por Año’ (Salary per Year) benefit plan.

Defense Minister Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre noted that beneficiaries received their funds only five months after retirement, which is significantly faster than the one-year maximum period established in 2024 to ensure the plan's financial sustainability. The program is funded exclusively by contributions made by active-duty military members.

Since September 2024, a total of RD$2,768,663,837.79 has been disbursed under this plan, benefiting 3,188 retired military members. Fernández Onofre emphasized the importance of maintaining transparent and sustainable social security systems for the military and their families.
