Dominican Republic weather alerts issued due to heavy rainfall

The Dominican Republic is facing significant weather instability caused by a trough and high humidity levels. The Emergency Operations Center (COE) has issued various alerts across the country to mitigate risks of urban flooding, river overflows, and landslides.

Heavy rains have already impacted several regions, with reports indicating that approximately 2,360 people and 590 homes have been affected, particularly in the provinces of Santiago and Puerto Plata. In response to the weather conditions, the Ministry of Education (MINERD) has authorized the suspension of classes in vulnerable areas located within provinces under yellow alerts.

Meteorological authorities (Indomet) predict that while some rain intensity may decrease in certain areas, the trough will continue to trigger moderate to heavy showers, electrical storms, and wind gusts, especially in the northeast, southeast, and the Central Mountain Range. Residents in high-risk zones are advised to avoid crossing swollen rivers and to stay updated via official emergency channels.
