Dominican Republic launches consular reshuffle, disaster aid and sweeping security operations

President Luis Abinader issued Decree 342‑26 to appoint seven new vice‑consuls and an auxiliary consular officer, and later Decree 418‑26 removed Alfonso Rodríguez as consul‑general in Los Angeles, naming Carlos Gabriel García in his place. The government also dispatched a USAR search‑and‑rescue team to Venezuela as part of Operation Quisqueya Solidaria 2026, providing humanitarian assistance after the earthquake there.

The Ministry of the Woman urged media to regularly publish hotlines for gender‑based violence, while the Ministry of Health organized a free‑clinic “Más Salud” in Hermanas Mirabal, offering consultations, vaccinations and health education.

Security forces announced the arrest of 156 suspects in operations across several provinces, including the capture of alleged robber Carlos Julio Carrasco Peña. The National Police also reported the fatal shooting of suspected criminal Reymond Taveraz Ortega (“Flaco Prenda”) after he confronted a DICRIM patrol.

The Directorate General of Migration detained 1,286 undocumented foreigners and deported 1,038 through border points, and police, the INTRANT and other agencies carried out a national motoconcho regularisation, inspecting 488 illegal stands, registering 2,808 users and issuing thousands of new motorcycle licences.

Separately, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications faced a lawsuit for alleged non‑compliance with court orders to pay accrued benefits to career civil servants.
