Dominican Republic officials seek to improve permits for baseball prospects

The National Baseball Commissioner and the Directorate General of Migration in the Dominican Republic held a meeting with executives from Major League Baseball (MLB) academies to improve permit and documentation systems for baseball prospects.

Led by Commissioner Junior Noboa and Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Ballester of Migration, the discussion addressed challenges faced by foreign players seeking to enter the country to train at the 30 MLB complexes. Noboa noted that at least 40 percent of trainees in these academies are foreigners, primarily from Venezuela and Mexico. The dialogue also considered the needs of independent academies that manage hundreds of requests for international prospects to participate in tryouts.
