Dominican Republic Opens Integrated Justice Center for Gender Violence Victims in Bahoruco
The Dominican Republic’s Procuraduría General inaugurated the Integrated Justice Center for Access to Justice in Neyba, Bahoruco Province. The new facility, part of a reform plan led by Prosecutor General Yeni Berenice Reynoso, houses a Unit for Victims of Gender Violence, Intrafamily Violence and Sexual Crimes and the offices of the National Service for Legal Representation of Victims (Relevic).
During the opening, national director against gender violence Ana Andrea Villa Camacho reported 192 complaints of gender‑based and intrafamily violence in Bahoruco from January to May, most of them intrafamily cases. She noted that the Ministry of Public Prosecutors received about 73,000 such complaints nationwide in 2025, stressing that many incidents remain unreported. The center provides multidisciplinary support—including prosecutors, psychologists, forensic doctors, social workers and specialized lawyers—and offers free legal representation through Relevic, as well as protection measures from the specialized women's assistance directorate.
The initiative aims to improve access to justice for victims, encourage reporting, and strengthen legal and psychosocial assistance in the region.
