Dominican diaspora calls for infrastructure and consular service improvements

Dominican communities in the United States are raising concerns regarding infrastructure and administrative services. In Barahona, residents and legal experts are calling for an urgent, permanent engineering solution to the “El Derrumbao” section of the Barahona-Pedernales highway. The area is described as highly complex due to unstable geological conditions, and advocates argue that current provisional measures are insufficient given the region's growing tourism importance.

Simultaneously, members of the Dominican diaspora in New York and New Jersey are demanding that the Junta Central Electoral (JCE) streamline the issuance of new identity cards (cédulas) abroad. Community leaders, including Ángel Mota Ramírez, have highlighted the economic importance of the diaspora and expressed concern over the current capacity of the JCE to meet demand. Conversely, Radhamés Rodríguez, president of United Bodegas of America, praised the JCE's efficiency in New York and welcomed the opening of a new consular office in the Bronx to improve institutional proximity to the community.
