Dominican Republic pledges over RD 415 million for sports facilities ahead of 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games

The Dominican government announced an investment exceeding RD 415 million to build and remodel nine sports venues in the province of Espaillat, covering the municipalities of Moca, Gaspar Hernández, San Víctor and Veragua. Projects include an international‑standard athletics track, a baseball stadium, roofed club facilities, and upgrades to multi‑purpose gyms, with completion targeted within the remaining two years of President Luis Abinader’s term.

The Dominican Olympic Committee scheduled Olympic Day for 21 June in Ciudad Juan Bosch, featuring tree planting, a morning mass, a community walk and a slate of competitions in basketball, cycling, skateboarding, duathlon, kid‑boxing, handball, baseball, softball, taekwondo and volleyball.

On the same day, the torch of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games 2026 passed through Moca, drawing hundreds of locals, athletes and officials, including provincial governor Patricia Rivera and mayor Guarocuya Cabral. The relay highlighted Moca’s role as a sub‑venue for football matches during the Games, reinforcing the province’s new sports infrastructure and its importance for the regional event scheduled for July‑August 2026.
