Dominican Republic police seize drugs and magnetic cards as migration authority upgrades inspections and detains over 1,
The Central Intelligence Directorate (DINTEL) of the Dominican National Police carried out a focused operation in the Capotillo sector of the Distrito Nacional, seizing 154 portions of marijuana, 171 portions of cocaine, two portions of molly, 46 slot machines, more than 1,100 golden magnetic cards likely intended for credit‑card cloning, 1,180 cigarettes, five balances, two digital weights and 12 electronic devices. All seized items were handed over to the Public Ministry for further investigation.
The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) announced a modernization of its computerised inspection system, DOM‑02. The upgrade enables automatic comparison of a traveller’s passport photo with the image stored in the chip, and displays natural, infrared and ultraviolet images on a single screen, enhancing detection of forged or altered documents. The new system also streamlines administrative procedures, standardising registration and charge management for users.
In parallel, the DGM reported that during interdiction operations 1,024 foreign nationals in irregular migratory status were detained, with the highest numbers recorded in Dajabón (99 detentions) and Santo Domingo (85 detentions). The Army captured 203 of those individuals and the Police 87. The detainees were later repatriated through border points in Dajabón, El Ías Piña, Jimaní and Pedernales.
