Dominican Republic power distributors see surge in outage complaints

Public electricity distributors in the Dominican Republic reported a sharp rise in service interruptions. Between January 2025 and June 2026 the three main companies logged almost 1.2 million outage reports, averaging 93 complaints per hour in 2025. Edenorte recorded 539,709 complaints over the 18‑month period, while EdeSur logged 538,786 incidents, with the highest concentrations in Santo Domingo, the Distrito Nacional and San Cristóbal.

In Villa Mella, residents of Los Arqueanos, Remanso, Carlos Álvarez and La 28 have endured more than two days without electricity, causing economic losses for merchants, spoilage of perishable goods and hardship for families, especially children and the elderly. The community warned that continued instability could provoke street protests and tire‑burning demonstrations if the service is not restored promptly.
