Dominican Republic producers receive RD$15 million for irrigation technology

Eighteen agricultural producers in the northern region of the Dominican Republic have received bonus certificates totaling more than RD$15 million to modernize their irrigation systems. The funds were granted by the National Irrigation Technification Executive Directorate (TNR) through the National Irrigation System Technification Promotion Fund (Fotesir).

Claudio Caamaño Vélez, director of the TNR, stated that the initiative is a decisive step toward making irrigation more profitable, sustainable, and competitive. The program aims to optimize water usage, increase crop productivity, and strengthen the agricultural sector's resilience against climate change.

Through the Fotesir calls and the Bagri-Riego program, developed alongside the Banco Agrícola, installation costs for irrigation systems have been reduced by more than half. This sixth round of bonuses brings the total number of non-reimbursable certificates issued to 108, representing a total investment of over RD$60 million across provinces including San Juan, Azua, Bahoruco, Independencia, Valverde, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, and Montecristi.
