Santo Domingo judge orders detention for man accused of assaulting family members
A judge in Santo Domingo Oeste has imposed three months of preventive detention against Santiago Ángeles Willmore, who is accused of physically assaulting three family members in the Libertador sector of Herrera.
The victims include his 86-year-old mother, a sister with a visual disability, and a seven-year-old nephew with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). According to the Public Ministry, the child suffered a mild cranial trauma after being struck with a wooden object. Medical examinations also revealed old, healed scars on the child that are consistent with a pattern of ongoing child abuse.
One of the female victims also sustained a recent contusion. Prosecutors argued that the vulnerability of the victims and the severity of the alleged actions justified the detention. The case involves multiple legal protections, including laws regarding the rights of children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.
