Dominican Republic prosecutors seek detention for armed robber

The Dominican Republic's Public Ministry has requested preventive detention for Eslyn Yoel De los Ángeles following an armed robbery in the Distrito Nacional. On October 5, 2026, the suspect allegedly threatened a 66-year-old man inside a commercial plaza and stole RD$3,639,292 that the victim was preparing to deposit at a bank.

During his escape, De los Ángeles reportedly attempted to shoot two motorcyclists. The first individual escaped injury after his helmet deflected a shot. The suspect then allegedly shot a second motorcyclist in the head. The suspect was eventually detained by a group of motorcyclists who alerted emergency services. A judicial hearing regarding the request for preventive detention is scheduled for October 8, 2026.
