Dominican Republic raises weather alert to 24 provinces amid heavy rains

The Dominican Republic's Emergency Operations Center (COE) upgraded its weather warnings on Saturday, placing 24 provinces under alert as a deep trough and a tropical wave triggered intense rain across much of the country. Authorities warned of moderate to heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, urging residents to follow official bulletins and avoid crossing swollen rivers and streams.

The alert covers provinces such as Santo Domingo, Santiago, La Vega, San Cristóbal and others, with several areas remaining under a green alert. The COE emphasized the risk of rapid flooding in vulnerable low‑lying communities and advised caution near water bodies and beaches.
