Dominican President Abinader Rolls Out New Sports Venues and Humanitarian Aid for Earthquake‑Stricken Venezuela
President Luis Abinader announced the inauguration of the modernised Arena Banreservas Virgilio Travieso Soto and the completion of most facilities for the upcoming XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, highlighting the Dominican Republic’s push to host high‑profile regional sport events.
At the same time, the government activated Operation Quisqueya Solidaria 2026, opening two collection centres in Santo Domingo – one for medicines at the San Isidro Air Base and another for food and water at the 27 Febrero Naval Base – and dispatching a diplomatic mission to Venezuela to assist Dominican nationals and deliver aid after the country’s devastating 7.2‑ and 7.5‑magnitude earthquakes.
The administration also inaugurated the 2026 Border Games in Jimaní, bringing together more than 2,200 athletes from seven frontier provinces, reinforcing its policy of using sport to foster regional cooperation and youth development.
