The historic Palacio de los Deportes Virgilio Travieso Soto in Santo Domingo has been transformed into the modern Arena Banreservas Virgilio Travieso Soto. Funded by state bank Banreservas, the renovation adds a high‑definition LED screen, professional sound, climate‑control systems and 8,000‑plus seats. President Luis Abinader and Banreservas chief Leonardo Aguilera inaugurated the venue, noting it “strengthens national sport and positions the country to host major international events.”
In Santo Domingo Este, the Asociación de Sóftbol de la Provincia Santo Domingo launched the XXI Torneo Chata 2026, featuring 55 teams and over 1,000 athletes. Defending champion Cabirma B opened the competition with a 12‑10 win.
