Dominican Republic sees growth in medical tourism and aesthetic medicine

The Dominican Republic is seeing significant growth in plastic surgery and medical tourism, attracting both local and international patients for procedures including dentistry, bariatric surgery, and orthopedics. Plastic surgeon Rafael Mirabal Batista has noted this expansion but warned of the risks associated with professional intrusion, where unqualified individuals perform complex procedures like abdominoplasties or breast surgeries. He emphasized the necessity for patients to verify medical credentials and facility accreditation to ensure safety.

In the field of aesthetic medicine, Dominican specialist Dr. Tammy Toribio is set to represent the country on the international stage. She is scheduled to speak at the 3rd International Congress of Aesthetic and Laser Medicine (ACOMEL 2026) in Ibagué, Colombia, in September 2026. Following this, she will participate in AMWC Dubai 2026 in October, where she will present on mitochondrial health and its implications for skin aging.
