Santiago Hazim's deadline to face charges in Dominican Senasa case

The Dominican Public Ministry must file a formal accusation by Thursday, 30 July 2026, against former Senasa director Santiago Hazim and nine other alleged participants in a corruption scheme that prosecutors say defrauded the state of more than RD$19 billion. The Specialized Anti‑Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (PEPCA) together with the Ministry of Public Prosecutor’s Directorate are required to submit the accusatory act to Judge Kenya Romero, who will then assign the case to the appropriate trial court.

If the Ministry fails to meet the deadline, Article 151 of the Dominican Penal Code mandates that the control judge may issue an intimation to Prosecutor General Yeni Berenice Reynoso and the state’s legal representatives, giving them a further fifteen days to file the required documents. Continued failure could lead the judge to declare the criminal action extinguished and impose civil and personal liability on the responsible prosecutors.

The deadline marks a decisive moment in the Senasa case, as the accused face potential penalties and the government seeks to recover the alleged losses from the alleged corruption network.
