Dominican Republic sends 50 tons of aid to Colombia earthquake victims

The Dominican Republic has donated 50 tons of humanitarian aid to Colombia to assist victims of the earthquake that struck on August 10. The shipment arrived at the port of Cartagena aboard the vessel Almirante Didiez Burgos.

The aid includes non-perishable food, tools, medicines, and personal hygiene products. The Colombian Navy will transport the supplies from Cartagena to Turbo, Antioquia, via the vessel Golfo de Morrosquillo. From there, fluvial units will carry the materials to Quibdó and riverside communities along the Atrato River to reach the most severely affected areas.

This contribution joins approximately 640 tons of aid previously sent by nations including the United States, Israel, Argentina, and El Salvador. The earthquake, centered in San José del Palmar in the Chocó department, has resulted in 331 deaths, 4,519 injuries, and 136 people missing. The disaster has affected over 466,000 people across 16 departments and 494 municipalities, causing significant damage to hundreds of thousands of homes.
