International earthquake relief for Colombia

Overview

Following a powerful earthquake on August 10 centered in San José del Palmar, Chocó, international humanitarian efforts have mobilized to assist victims in Colombia.

On August 29, France delivered 10 tons of aid, including tents, water purification equipment, and sanitation supplies, to support approximately 200 families. This delivery was coordinated through the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.

By early September, the Dominican Republic contributed 50 tons of aid, consisting of food, medicine, and hygiene products, which arrived at the port of Cartagena. The Colombian Navy is tasked with transporting these supplies to Turbo, Antioquia, before moving them via fluvial units to Quibdó and communities along the Atrato River.

These contributions add to approximately 640 tons of aid previously provided by the United States, Israel, Argentina, and El Salvador. The disaster has resulted in 331 deaths, 4,519 injuries, and 136 missing persons, affecting over 466,000 people across 16 departments.
