Dominican Republic tightens border controls due to Haiti anthrax alert

Authorities in the Dominican Republic have intensified sanitary inspections at the Dajabón–Juana Méndez border crossing to prevent the entry of meat, sausages, and other animal products from Haiti. This measure is a preventive response to a sanitary alert regarding potential anthrax cases in Haiti.

Provincial Health Director Zaberkis Rodríguez stated that the actions are being coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture, the General Directorate of Migration, and CESFRONT. While the sanitary situation in Haiti is reportedly concentrated in a region distant from the northern border, officials are maintaining strict surveillance to protect public health. Veterinary officials noted that no infected animals have entered through this point so far, but inspections remain permanent to mitigate the risk of zoonotic diseases that can spread from livestock to humans.
