Dominican Republic tourism leaders recognized and urged to support local arts

The Dominican Republic's tourism sector is receiving international recognition and calls for deeper cultural integration. Frank Rainieri has been honored with the WTTC Icon Award at the 26th World Travel & Tourism Council Summit in Malta. The award recognizes his leadership since 1969 in transforming Punta Cana into a major international destination and helping establish tourism as a primary pillar of the Dominican economy.

In a separate development, Leonardo Medrano of Nice Dominicana has called upon hotel owners and business leaders to better support local artists. Speaking during the presentation of The Caribbean Gold Coast Magazine, Medrano emphasized that the tourism industry should serve as a platform for Dominican cultural identity by incorporating local art and creators into hotels and tourist establishments to enrich the visitor experience.
