Dominican Republic tourism sector expands through health congress and economic advocacy
The Dominican Republic is strengthening its position in the tourism sector through both specialized industry events and economic advocacy. The Dominican Association of Health Tourism (ADTS) and AF Comunicación Estratégica have announced the 8th International Health and Wellness Tourism Congress, scheduled for June 9-10, 2027, in Santo Domingo. The event aims to attract investment, promote technology transfer, and establish the country as a regional medical tourism hub.
Separately, the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores) is advocating for the preservation of state incentives for the sector. Asonahores president Juan Bancalari noted that the tourism industry generated US$11,866 million in foreign exchange last year and contributed 15.9% to the national GDP. The sector also supports over 882,000 jobs and contributed RD$27,570 million in fiscal and social security contributions last year.
