Dominican Republic upgrades sports venues for 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games

The Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED) in the Dominican Republic has delivered nine new sports facilities at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center and Parque del Este in preparation for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games scheduled for July 24–August 8, 2026. Completed venues include a karate pavilion, volleyball practice pavilion, softball stadium, aquatic center, fencing pavilion, weight‑lifting pavilion, archery range, table‑tennis pavilion and gymnastics pavilion. Additional projects nearing completion are a handball pavilion, chess pavilion, beach‑volleyball pavilion, basketball pavilion, taekwondo and wrestling pavilions, and upgrades to lighting, green areas and surrounding infrastructure.

The synthetic track for the Félix Sánchez Stadium, installed by Mondo, is slated to become the most modern athletics track in the Americas, matching the surface used at the Paris 2024 Olympics and set for the Los Angeles 2028 Games. The eight‑lane, dual‑color track features a ten‑year guarantee and is expected to be ready for testing ahead of the 2026 Games, positioning the Dominican Republic to host high‑level international athletics competitions.
