Dominican Republic upgrades sports venues in La Romana and La Isleta
The Club Deportivo y Cultural San Martín de Porres in La Romana was reopened after a comprehensive renovation costing RD$67,780,746. The project, overseen by construction firm HPP and inaugurated by Vice President Raquel Peña, restored the main structure, roof, sports areas, multi‑use hall and equipment, creating a modern space for youth, families and community events.
Separately, the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) delivered three refurbished sports courts and related equipment to the La Isleta prison, marking the first such facility in the country. The initiative, part of a plan to upgrade five penitentiaries, aims to promote inmate reintegration through basketball, baseball, football, chess and other games. Officials Guido Gómez Mazara, Roberto Santana and Bernardo Henríquez Maldonado highlighted the project’s role in fostering discipline, teamwork and a smoother return to society.
