Dominican Republic sports facility upgrades

In late July 2026 the Dominican Republic’s sports ministry announced a new revenue model for its flagship venues. The Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez and the Arena Banreservas were each assigned daily rental fees of US $120,000 and US $50,000 respectively, a scheme intended to generate up to two million dollars a year for maintenance, security and landscaping without relying on state budgets.

A week later the government reported concrete upgrades to other sports sites. The Club Deportivo y Cultural San Martín de Porres in La Romana reopened after a RD$67.8 million renovation, providing modern facilities for community use. Simultaneously, the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications equipped the La Isleta prison with refurbished courts and equipment, marking the first prison sports complex in the country and supporting inmate reintegration.

Together, the announcements show a broader push to fund, refurbish and expand sports infrastructure across the nation, extending beyond the high‑profile stadiums to community and correctional facilities.
