Dominican Republic issues weather alerts for heavy rain and heat
The Dominican Republic is facing weather instability due to a tropical wave and an approaching trough. The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and wind gusts across various provinces, including the Gran Santo Domingo area.
Authorities have issued alerts for potential urban flooding in Gran Santo Domingo. Other affected regions include Samaná, La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, and San Pedro de Macorís. While Hurricane Isaias recently weakened into a post-tropical cyclone near Alabama, it is not considered a threat to the country.
In addition to the rain, high temperatures are expected to persist, with maximums ranging between 31°C and 35°C. Officials have advised the population to stay hydrated and take precautions against intense heat and potential flooding.
