Dominican Republic issues weather alerts for multiple provinces

The Dominican Republic Emergency Operations Center (COE) has issued weather alerts across multiple provinces due to a trough causing atmospheric instability. Espaillat, La Vega, and Puerto Plata have been placed under yellow alert, while approximately 13 to 16 other provinces, including the Gran Santo Domingo and Santiago, remain under green alert.

The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) warns that the trough will trigger locally heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, wind gusts, and potential hail, particularly in the northern, northeastern, central mountain, and border regions. These conditions pose risks of urban flooding and sudden rises in rivers, streams, and ravines.

In addition to the precipitation, high temperatures are expected, with maximums reaching between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius. Authorities have also warned of increased wave heights on both the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts, advising small and medium-sized vessel operators to exercise caution. Residents are urged to stay informed through official channels and avoid crossing flooded waterways.
