Caribbean weather alerts issued for heavy rain and tropical waves

Meteorological institutes in the Caribbean are warning of unstable weather conditions across the region. In the Dominican Republic, INDOMET reports that while mornings may be sunny, afternoon humidity and orographic heating will trigger moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms, and wind gusts in various provinces, including Santo Domingo, Santiago, and Samaná. A tropical wave is expected to approach the country on Thursday, potentially increasing cloud cover and precipitation.

In Cuba, Insmet has issued alerts for heavy and locally intense rainfall, particularly in the central region. High humidity and a trough are driving these storms, with significant accumulations already reported in Guantánamo province.

Puerto Rico is also facing weather instability, with forecasts predicting afternoon showers and thunderstorms due to lingering moisture. A weak tropical wave is expected to move through the area between Friday and Saturday, which may cause localized flooding in urban areas and near small streams. Residents are advised to remain cautious of lightning and potential flooding.
