Dominican Republic’s Indotel urges universities to drive digital shift and opens cybersecurity assistance center

Guido Gómez Mazara, president of the Dominican Republic’s telecommunications regulator Indotel, called on the country’s universities to become leading partners in building a national digital ecosystem. At a conference he stressed the need for research, innovation and technology to be embedded in curricula and for academic institutions to work closely with public policy to accelerate the nation’s digital transformation.

Indotel also announced the launch of a Cybersecurity Assistance Center that will provide citizens with immediate guidance and support against digital threats such as WhatsApp scams, fraudulent calls, identity theft, cyber‑bullying and online extortion. “Today cybersecurity is a citizen issue. It touches tranquility, the economy, privacy and dignity,” Gómez Mazara said, adding that the centre will offer preventive education, early‑alert guidance and referrals, especially for vulnerable groups like children, older adults and small businesses.
