Dominican Republic's Mescyt and Casio launch AI and robotics training partnership

The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt) and Japanese electronics firm Casio signed a collaboration agreement to boost education in artificial intelligence, robotics, science, mathematics and other emerging technologies. The pact aims to prepare teachers and students for the digital economy and to align higher‑education programmes with the evolving needs of the country's free‑zone industries, which now produce medical devices and high‑tech components.

Minister Rafael Santos Badía said the agreement will accelerate the transformation of higher education, enabling continuous short‑term programmes, diplomas and professional reconversion courses. He highlighted that longer life expectancy means many workers will stay active longer, increasing the demand for ongoing skill upgrades.

The partnership will provide training for faculty in AI and robotics, support the development of short‑duration technical certificates, and foster continuous learning to help the Dominican workforce adapt to rapid technological change.
