Dominican Republic Mescyt tech education push

In late July 2026 the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt) signed a partnership with Japanese electronics firm Casio to develop AI and robotics training for teachers and students. The agreement targets short‑term programmes, diplomas and professional reconversion courses, aiming to equip the workforce for the country’s growing digital‑economy sectors such as medical devices and high‑tech components.

A few weeks later, in early August 2026, Mescyt announced a second phase of its international education drive, securing agreements with Harvard University, MIT and several leading European universities. The ministry awarded 1,500 scholarships for the upcoming academic year, with 70 % earmarked for STEM fields including artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, renewable energy and biotechnology. An additional “Excelencia sin Barreras” programme will provide 5,000 domestic scholarships for high‑performing high‑school graduates. Together, the partnership and scholarship initiatives illustrate Mescyt’s rapid expansion of high‑skill training and overseas study opportunities to meet labour‑market needs and strengthen the Dominican Republic’s knowledge‑based economy.
