Dominican Republic's National Health Service records historic 25.3 million services in first half of 2026

The Dominican Republic's National Health Service (SNS) delivered a record 25,395,290 specialized health services between January and June 2026, the highest output for a first half since its inception. The surge included 4,190,871 consultations, 224,814 hospitalizations, 347,416 surgeries, 15,702,742 laboratory tests, 2,408,155 imaging studies and 2,521,292 emergency attendances.

The SNS invested RD$397,044,550.72 in equipment for hospitals and primary‑care diagnostic centers and expanded the National Mental Health Network to 300 crisis‑intervention beds, aiming for 500 by year‑end. Director of the SNS, Dr. Julio Landrón, attributed the results to intensified supervision, equipment upgrades and a focus on humanised care, with support from President Luis Abinader and Vice‑President Raquel Peña.
