Dominican sprinter Christopher Melenciano secures new home
Dominican sprinter Christopher Melenciano and his mother, Marisol Reyes, have moved into a new apartment after facing housing instability. The athlete and his mother were previously forced to temporarily relocate to a relative's home in Villa Mella due to severe leaks and poor conditions in their rented residence in Capotillo.
Melenciano, a prominent figure in Dominican athletics with a hearing impairment, has achieved significant international success. He became the first Dominican to win medals at the 2022 Deaflympics, earning both gold and silver. Additionally, he recently set two world records for deaf athletes in the 100 and 200-meter sprints during a competition in Japan. He also secured gold in the relay at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games alongside Marileidy Paulino.
With his housing situation stabilized, Melenciano is focusing on upcoming athletic commitments, including the Deaf World Championships in Brazil and qualifying competitions for Lima 2027.
